Natasha Swan
Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist
The Rowan Rooms, Abersychan
You may be looking for therapy because you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties or the impact of a significant life event. Equally, you may not be in crisis at all, but feel a desire to understand yourself more deeply, make sense of your experiences, explore patterns that no longer serve you, or move towards living a more fulfilling life.
Whatever has brought you here, my aim is to offer a warm, empathetic and non-judgemental space where you feel able to speak openly. Therapy is an opportunity for us to become curious about your experiences together, helping you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships and the challenges you may be facing.
I am a BACP-registered level 7 counsellor and psychotherapist and completed my professional training in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (Postgraduate Diploma) at the University of South Wales. I work relationally, which means I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is at the heart of meaningful change. Feeling safe, heard and understood is an important part of therapy, which is why finding a therapist who feels like the right fit for you matters.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred, psychodynamic, existential, cognitive behavioural (CBT) and solution-focused therapy. Rather than applying one approach to everyone, I tailor therapy to your individual needs, recognising that every person's experiences and goals are unique.
I am trauma-informed and have experience supporting clients with a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, grief and life transitions. I also recognise that many people carry shame, self-criticism or experiences they have never felt able to talk about. Whatever your story, you will be met with compassion, curiosity and respect rather than judgement.
I have long been interested in the meaning people make of their lives and what it means to live a fulfilling life. This led to me completing my undergraduate degree in Theology (BD Hons, 2:1) at the University of Wales, Bangor, which deepened my understanding and appreciation of the differing beliefs and values we hold.
Before becoming a therapist I also spent many years working alongside people experiencing trauma, abuse and significant life crises and have worked as a Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) practitioner, supporting frontline professionals following traumatic incidents. These experiences deepened my understanding of the lasting impact trauma can have on our sense of safety, wellbeing, identity and relationships, and reinforced my belief in the importance of compassionate, thoughtful support.
I have worked with people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. I gained my clinical experiences through Mind where I worked with people experiencing a range of emotional and psychological difficulties. I have also completed Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), a recognised programme focused on suicide prevention and intervention.
I aim to provide a respectful, culturally aware space where each person's individual story is valued. I recognise that our identities, relationships, values and life experiences shape how we experience the world, and I aim to approach each person with openness, curiosity, humility and warmth.
If you think we may be a good fit, I would be pleased to hear from you.
